Planning a Wedding While Running a Business (and Being a Mom!)
If there is something life has taught me recently, is that there's never a perfect time. It also has taught me that life really can change in the blick of an eye. A few months ago we planned a trip for the end of May since the kids would be out of school, and we were also looking forward to warm weather. But it would not just be another summer vacation it would be one of the most meaningful days of our lives. Just 58 days before the trip we made the decision that we would have also have our wedding there after being together for 14 years.
Before I continue I have to share something on a personal note. This something that has reshaped my outlook in life. Something that made me realize someday may never come, tomorrows are never promised and to live life to the fullest.
My father passed away.
It was sudden, it was hard and it rocked my world to the core. I had this big dream that one day, one day when we had time, when we had enough money we would have a big wedding and my father would walk me down the aisle. This of course did not happen as he passed awar from cancer October 2024.
So with a heart full of grief and gratitude I move forward everyday with even more purpose.
Since I was fifteen years old and I saw my first wedding in Old San Juan I've dreamt of getting married in this city. If you have never been it is truly special and romantic. Hotel El Covento would be just the place for the reception, and Salon Martorell the perfect space for twenty-six guest. Yes, thirty-one guest including our little unit of five. It was romantic, intimate and the San Juan sunset would be over us.
While planning a wedding in fifty eight days I also juggled being a mom, real estate clients, and opening a new business. Yes, we also opened a second location for our barbers hop, Barberia Barber Shop, second location in Dowtown Huntsville.
Our son being born in 2012 would be the reason that I would end up getting into real estate. I wanted to be a fulltime mom and also have a career. Being a real estate agent after many years in real estate law firms proved to be the perfect space for me. Our son is my why and he would be the one who asked if he could walk me down the aisle and so he did. I am so proud of him, he will be entering the seventh grade. He will be moving to a new school in Madison, Alabama fall of 2025.
What I learned? That we are capable to do so much if we put our minds to it. So wether its planning a wedding, moving schools, starting fresh after a loss or buying a home--- know that you can do it-all of it!
